Alipay rejected your foreign card. Here is why.
“It says my card is not supported, but it works everywhere else.”
What to do now
Try these in order. Stop as soon as one works.
-
Enable overseas and online payments
In your bank app, look for card controls or a travel notice. Switch on international and online transactions. If you cannot find it, call the number on the back of the card.
About 5 min -
Re-enter the card exactly as printed
First name then last name. No middle name, no hyphens, no accents. If the card shows the family name first, type it in that order.
About 2 min -
Test with a small payment
After binding, pay for something under 200 RMB. Small payments trigger fewer checks and confirm the binding actually works.

Why this happens
Ranked by how often it is the cause.
Your bank blocks international or online transactions by default.
Open the card's app or call the number on the back of the card.
Likelihood: high
The name on the card does not exactly match what you typed (middle name, spacing, order).
Compare with the embossed text on the card, not the app.
Likelihood: high
The card network is unsupported, or it is a debit card with restrictions.
Try a Visa or Mastercard credit card.
Likelihood: medium
If that does not work
Get out of the queue first. Solve the payment later.
- Use a different card network
Visa and Mastercard credit cards have the highest success rate.
- Pay with cash at the counter
Cash remains legal tender and is accepted everywhere.
- Pre-book through Trip.com or Klook
You pay abroad, in your own currency, before you arrive.
