At the counter: pay in under a minute.

Updated 2026-10-26 4 ways to pay ~4 min Cash backup included

Can you pay here?

Yes. Most convenience stores take Alipay, WeChat Pay, and cash. Foreign cards rarely work directly at the till.

Try these in order

Start with the method the staff expect, then fall back to cash.

  1. Alipay payment code

Open the payment code or scan the shop's printed QR code.

Works once a foreign card is bound.
  2. WeChat Pay code

Same flow inside WeChat, under Services.

Works if your account passed verification.
  3. Cash

Hand over RMB notes and take your change.

Works everywhere. Keep notes under 100 RMB.
  4. Physical card

Ask before the cashier rings up the sale.

Only at some chain stores. Many tills have no card reader.

Backup options

Get out of the queue first. Solve the payment later.

  • Pay cash and keep the receipt

Ask for a receipt if you may need a refund later.

  • Try the next shop

Chain stores are more likely to have a working QR setup.

  • Use self-checkout only if it shows Alipay or WeChat Pay

Self-checkouts often skip cash and foreign cards.
