“It says insufficient balance, but my card has plenty of money.”

What to do now

Try these in order. Stop as soon as one works.

  1. Switch the funding source to your card

On the payment confirmation screen, tap the payment method and choose the linked card instead of balance.

    About 1 min
  2. Set the card as default

In payment settings, set the priority order so the card is used first for the rest of the trip.

    About 2 min
  3. Retry the payment

The same QR code can be scanned again immediately after switching the source.

    About 1 min

Why this happens

Ranked by how often it is the cause.

The payment method is set to wallet balance instead of the card.

Open the payment screen and look at the selected funding source.

Likelihood: high

The transaction requires a balance the wallet cannot draw from the card for that merchant type.

Try a different merchant to confirm the card works.

Likelihood: medium

A previous refund went to balance and the wallet shows a stale figure.

Pull down to refresh the balance.

Likelihood: low

If that does not work

Get out of the queue first. Solve the payment later.

  • Pay cash for this purchase

    Fastest escape from a queue.

  • Use the other wallet app

A second wallet with a different card avoids the setting entirely.

  • Top up balance is not possible for tourists

Do not try to fund a wallet with an international card; use the card directly instead.
