“I uploaded my passport three times and it keeps failing.”

What to do now

Try these in order. Stop as soon as one works.

  1. Retake the photo in daylight

Place the passport flat, avoid overhead lights, keep all four corners inside the frame, and avoid fingers.

    About 3 min
  2. Match the name character by character

Use the Latin spelling from the passport, not the transliteration your bank uses.

    About 2 min
  3. Retry on a stable connection

Uploads fail silently on weak networks. Switch to Wi-Fi and wait for the confirmation screen.

    About 10 min

Why this happens

Ranked by how often it is the cause.

Glare or shadow on the photo page, or the machine-readable zone is cropped.

Retake in daylight, flat on a table, with all four corners visible.

Likelihood: high

The name typed in the app differs from the passport spelling.

Copy the surname and given name exactly as printed.

Likelihood: medium

The passport is close to expiry, or the scan does not match the chip data.

Check the expiry date and try scanning the data page again.

Likelihood: low

If that does not work

Get out of the queue first. Solve the payment later.

  • Complete verification at a hotel front desk

Staff often know the exact photo requirements.

  • Use the other wallet app

Verification flows differ; one may accept what the other rejects.

  • Pay with cash and physical cards meanwhile

Do not let verification block your trip.
